What’s for lunch? Tired of trail mix and granola bars? Check out these sites and ideas to add variation to your meals.
Dustin’s Ideas:
Any breakfast or Dinner meal: If you are willing to stop and get out the stove. This is my most common and favorite way to eat lunch. I will eat a granola bar for breakfast, then snack on some dried fruit and nuts as I hike in the morning, then stop for a long break near lunch time. This gets me out of camp early and beats the heat of the day. When I am getting tired, I get a long break!
The ultimate calorie dense lunch: Bagels/english muffins/crackers/pitas with cream cheese and salami.
Homemade trail mix: Almonds, walnuts and dried fruit. Add M&M’s for an extra energy boost.
Jerky: Trader Joes has good jerky, but you can always go with O’berto. Now you can get any number of meats, beef, turkey and salmon.
Nut butters: My favorite is Justin’s nut butters. They honey almond is great, but for the really decadent try hazelnut chocolate. They come in convenient 1.15 oz packages.
Energy Bars: Any one of the hundreds of energy bars out there can give you a needed boost in energy.
Snickers bars: My best friend eats one every day he is on the trail.
Other Sources of lunch ideas:
Homemade granola bars, hummus and wraps. All fairly easy and very tasty.
These meals are more involved, but are far more gourmet then the usual fair. Great stuff!
These meals are also more fancy, like the site above. Many of the meals on this site just don’t feel like things you would take on the trail, but why not?
